Brandrith is a rather esoteric crag near Thruscross reservoir in North Yorkshire. There are two distinct buttresses each of which have some reasonable climbing and limited bouldering. The highlights are the two striking aretes on the West Buttress, both of which would be celebrated classics on more well-known crags - Heaven In Your Hands in particular is a stunning problem, which must rank as one of the finest grit aretes anywhere. The crag is documented in the YMC Yorkshire Gritstone guidebook.

East Buttress

There is limited bouldering potential here, but the short sharp arete and the wall to its left at the left-hand end look good (and hard). At the right-hand end there is a short mantel problem, and an impressive arete with a bad landing.

The small boulder beneath the right-hand end of the crag has this mantel problem.

West Buttress

There are a few boulder problems at the left-hand end. The hanging crack in the enormous roof is unclimbed, as are both the crack and the obvious traverse of the lip at the right-hand end of the roof, though all these lines are a bit too high for the average boulderer. Further on there are two striking highball aretes.

The boulder at the left-hand end of the crag has several good problems including this arete.

The right-hand arete, above a poor landing.
