A collection of nice boulders of clean, silver moorland grit on the hillside near Hebden in North Yorkshire. There is lots of industrial archaeology to see on the walk up. From the crag there are views of towards Air Scar and Bardon Moor to the South and trackless moors to the North. Marked as Bolton Haw on the map; when you?ve seen the ?spires?, discovered the carvings and felt the kiss of the kind winds, you?ll get the name. A true high place.

Descriptions by John Hunt.

Expand First Boulder

The first boulder has some excellent problems.

Step from the little boulder to the ledge, then climb the same corner.

Knobbly Boulder

Just around the bay is a well featured overhanging block. Various eliminates are possible. Grittier rock, but good.

Climb the overhanging face on good holds to a triumphant top-out. A sit start is V3 but less good.

Expand The Big Sloping Boulder

Perfect silver grit and it?s massive - they feel like routes. Inspite of the easy angle, it?s got all the atmosphere of those first climbs you ever did on gritstone. A good place for beginners.

Pull on and use delicate manoeuvres to reach the ledge. A sit start turns it into a slappy V3.

Expand Arete Boulder

Just beside the big slopping boulder. Only three, but three good ones.

Climb the other side.

Expand Ben's Boff

A little pyramidal boulder hidden away along the edge.

Expand Roof Boulder

A good little boulder whose main potential is yet to be tapped.

Climb the left of the arete, trending left. Really good.

Expand Lookout Boulder

A bit disappointing after looking quite promising. Still, good ground for small scrambles and first steps on rock. There is scope here for very young climbers to take their first steps on rock.
